You have options when it comes to your care.

Dr. Whitney Gilley is an M.D. specialist in psychiatry that focuses on offering weekly individual psychotherapy. She also offers a physician’s specialty-level expertise in medication treatment options for those that may benefit.

However, medication is always a personal choice, and not all patients coming for therapy want or need medication to address their specific concerns. Dr. Gilley takes an integrative approach to care and discusses options with you so you can decide on a treatment plan that works best for you.

This is a psychotherapy-focused practice where Dr. Gilley believes in taking time with her patients. No visit is scheduled for less than 30 minutes, and regular therapy sessions are 50 minutes. The initial evaluation typically lasts about 2 hours to optimize your evaluation and discuss treatment choices. Care is tailored to your needs, values, and wellness goals.

New Directions Psychiatry PLLC is a small, patient-focused practice offering personalized, convenient, and confidential care. It was created for patients to receive direct specialist physician care. You do not have to have a complex condition or difficult-to-treat symptoms to be seen by a psychiatrist.

With a whole-person approach to psychiatry, it’s about more than just treating symptoms.

Dr. Gilley takes the time to understand you from the whole person perspective.

New Directions Psychiatry PLLC starting provides an in-depth initial evaluation that averages about 1.5 - 2 hours, all directly with your doctor. Considerations are given to the impact of daily activities and nutrition on mood and the effects of non-psychiatric medical conditions and medications on emotions and behavior. Dr. Gilley will provide counseling and information about your condition or concerns. She will discuss treatment options that fit your individual needs and aims for health and wellness. Her sincere goal is not just to treat symptoms but to help patients take steps to improve their overall quality of life.

Therapy appointments are scheduled for 50 minutes. The option of weekly psychotherapy with your doctor provides you with the tools to help you respond flexibly to stressors. You can set out in a new direction towards a healthier, happier life. Dr. Gilley offers CBT - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, ACT - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (also called insight-oriented psychotherapy), supportive therapy and counseling, and integrative therapy options. For many patients, the benefits of psychotherapy last longer and can address a more extensive range of concerns than medication treatment alone. However, Dr. Gilley will discuss all of your options with you.

Psychiatry specialty care when it’s hard to find.

It can be difficult to find a specialist, but it is often more challenging to be scheduled with the physician directly. Many sites advertise having psychiatry but schedule patients with other providers that are not physicians with psychiatry specialty training. At New Directions Psychiatry PLLC, all appointments are directly with the physician specialist in psychiatry.

Dr. Gilley is a Board Certified Psychiatrist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of psychiatric conditions in adults over 18. She has had formal psychotherapy training and provides a physician specialist's expertise in the use of psychiatric medications in conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma. Dr. Gilley also works with patients on stress, life challenges, rejection, and healing from grief. She has experience with treatment resistant depression, complex trauma (C-PTSD), treating psychiatric conditions in reproductive age, pregnant, and breastfeeding women.

A modern approach

A busy schedule can make getting to medical and therapy appointments difficult, but without them, we miss the opportunity to see the short and long-term benefits on our health.

Online psychiatry visits offer flexibility and new options for care.

No busy behavioral health clinic waiting rooms. No commute.

Convenient online visits can be accessed on any phone, tablet, or computer with a good internet connection. See FAQs.

With New Directions Psychiatry PLLC, you always know that your appointment is with a physician specializing in psychiatry.

A Belief in Privacy

Sometimes, the barriers to seeking treatment for a behavioral health disorder are about privacy.

There may be busy, often very public waiting rooms at large outpatient facilities.

For those in small communities, privacy concerns may leave patients hesitant to seek help.

For those in healthcare, receiving care at a place of work may create hesitation to seek care.

Patients often have concerns about who sees and has access to behavioral health records.

Some of the ways we believe this practice promotes patient privacy:

  • No public waiting room.

  • No billers, coders, schedulers, or administrative employees are involved with your personal information. Your physician takes care of these duties.

  • Because this practice does not bill insurance, you can have more control over your personal information. See Why Don’t You Take Insurance?

  • New Directions Psychiatry PLLC is a small, private practice. It is not part of any large medical group practice, community health system, or hospital system.

  • You can choose a quiet, safe space for your appointment anywhere in Kentucky or Tennessee with a reliable internet connection for your visit. The physician will be in a private location. An encrypted connection using a healthcare telehealth videoconferencing platform helps prevent anyone not part of the visit from seeing you on the screen or hearing what is said.

  • The option to receive care from a professional not located in your community (unless you are in the Hopkins County, Kentucky area) but who is still close enough to home to be familiar with many of the cultures and customs of where you live.

For more about privacy and what limitations exist, please see our Privacy Practices.

*Services require an internet connection capable of supporting synchronous audio and video from a physical location within a state where the physician is licensed. Not all conditions or situations are appropriate for telehealth services.

**Dr. Gilley is a clinical adult psychiatrist that offers patients voluntary treatment services. She is not a forensic psychiatrist, which is a psychiatrist with sub-specialty training in legal issues as they relate to psychiatry. This practice does not perform legal / Forensic Psychiatry evaluations. Professional ethics prevent psychiatrists from acting as both treating physician and as the evaluator of a patient for a third party such as an employer or for legal purposes. This psychotherapy-oriented, clinical practice does not perform Disability Evaluations or Fitness for Duty Evaluations (including Transporation/Aviation, or for carrying firearms), expert testimony, Forensic Evaluations, or other assessments for legal cases (such as divorce or child custody/parental fitness).
